TRIPTYCH INFORMATION - For Health Professionals

This collaborative project explores nonverbal, artsbased approaches to expressing lived experience in primary progressive aphasia (PPA). The work responds directly to reports from people with PPA that creative activities not dependent on language can support expression, wellbeing and identity.

Artist William Lindley and Dr Chris Hardy held participatory workshops with individuals with PPA through the speech and language therapist-led charity Dyscover, resulting in an audiovisual artwork titled Triptych. The title of the work reflects the three PPA variants and the tripartite collaboration between people with PPA, researchers and artists. The project foregrounds coproduction and will continue to develop as further contributions are integrated.

PPA is a rare form of dementia that affects speech and language, with three major variants currently recognised. You can learn more about the condition and its subtypes here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00415-018-8762-6
